Jace and I are waiting in the car for my younger brother Frank to get out of a job interview. Frank has been living with us for a while now and is hopefully going to be starting college soon. I’m 8 years older than him and he is the baby of the family. I also have an older brother. His name is Jeremy and he is autistic. He is 5 years older than me and while I only see him when we are in town visiting he calls me often. Last night he called to tell me that the microwave wasn’t working.
Growing up I was the one that would always watch over them and fix things. With Frank being so much younger than me I was his sister, baby sitter, and mini mom. With Jeremy even though I am younger I was the one that fixed things for him and protected him. Weather it was rushing to change the show that was on because he couldn’t handle the noise or throwing rocks at high school kids that would drive by and call him names while he was waiting for the bus.
I wasn’t always too helpful and we still acted like normal brothers and sisters. I scared the crap out of Frank more than once. I remember a few times I tricked him that I was taken by aliens and they took over my body. I also remember ripping a few of Jeremy’s beloved comic books to pieces. They also might have called me Hitler for a few years for being so bossy and making them do their homework.
Well he is still in the interview. I hope it’s going well!
Yesterday I had the typical mommy day. Jace had to have three baths. He decided to take a bath in his Orange juice and pancake syrup so after that he had his first bath. Then while he was dancing naked on my bed in front of the mirror while I was finding his clothes he decided that he also wanted to watch himself pee. So after I got him dressed and my bedding in the wash it was lunch time. Then finally nap time! Of course then I go to get him out of his little tikes truck and there was poop everywhere! He had taken off his shorts and diaper while sitting in his truck. So bath number two was next. Frank watched him while he was in the tub while I cleaned the truck. Luckily he didn’t get out of the truck.
When Patrick got home we went for Froyo before going to the grocery store. We were too tired to cook by the time we got home so we had spaghetti o’s. Then jace got his third normal bath at home before bed.
Sometimes life can be messy and covered in sticky Orange juice and Spaghetti O’s. Sometimes I get frustrated and don’t know if I should laugh or cry but in the end I’m so happy for this little boy of mine.
