Last Friday was Jace’s second Halloween. We decided to dress up as a family and thought it wouldn’t be that hard to make most of the costumes. Jace was Peter Pan and his was the easiest to make. I would tell anyone to just make their own Peter Pan costume. I took an oversized plain green shirt that I bought from Goodwill and cut it. I looked up several examples of how to make a simple hat and it was super easy. I have very limited sewing knowledge and it was pretty easy. We ordered some green toddler tights off of eBay but when it got here unfortunately they had sent us blue tights… We didn’t have time to get it corrected and couldn’t find plain green tights anywhere so I got some green pj pants from walmart used that.
So I’m a little biased but he was the cutest Peter Pan ever! He really didn’t want to leave the hat on but he had a blast.
Patrick’s costume on the other hand was a bit more time-consuming. Of course it doesn’t help that we procrastinate everything. Patrick dressed up as Captain Hook to go along with our theme. He wanted a Captain Hook Jacket and wanted me to make it since we couldn’t find one cheap enough to buy premade. I didn’t think I could make it, so we found a jacket that I could modify. I’m pretty sure now it would have been easier to make a whole jacket now from scratch. I stayed up the night before Halloween sewing and hot glueing while watching Netflix. I honestly was not sure if it was going to come out or if I was going to be able to even put the damn thing back together. I cut the women’s sleeves off and attempted to make my own. Cut the whole thing apart down the back so I could sew a few inches of fabric in the middle to make it wider. It was a pain in the ass but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I got a long white sleeved shirt and put lace around the cuffs. I say I’m never attempting to do this again but who knows…
I dressed up as Tinkerbell with a costume I bought. I am so glad I decided not to try to make my own. I really would not of had the time.
We had free tickets to go to the Zoo Boo and wanted to check it out. Our original plan was to do that on the 30th and go trick or treating with family on Halloween night. Since our costumes were not ready the day before and Jace had his 18 month check up that ran longer than expected we had to change our plans. We were kind of upset that we decided not to go trick or treating with family but it really did work out better. Patrick worked over the weekend and it saved us a lot of driving. We did the Zoo Boo first and while it was nice it really wasn’t for us. It was a long line and treats and games were scattered throughout the zoo. The games were cheap to play but honestly they were kind of lame and Jace was just too little to actually play any of them. We left after an hour and decided to just go trick or treating around a neighborhood. We stopped by one close to the zoo since it was already getting dark and I was worried it was going to be too dark by the time we got home. It was really fun! There was lots of kids walking around and we only stopped by the houses that had people sitting outside giving out candy. Jace loved it! He loved walking around and even left his hat on for a while. Next year I think we are just going to go regular trick or treating either around our house or with our family in our hometown.
We loved dressing up with Jace for Halloween. I know one day he wont want to dress up with us but right now he loves it. I think we are defiantly going to take advantage of that while he is little and keep dressing up with him. I’m not sure if we will always have a theme I’m sure next year he will actually want to pick his own costume but we are going to enjoy it while it lasts.
