Yesterday it hit me that summer was really over. In Texas it always feels like summer lasts longer here and its one of the things I love. The weather has been getting cooler in the low 80’s during the day which is kind of nice but I’m going to miss the long warm summer nights. I love the sunshine and unless it snows in Texas the cold is just not worth it. I HATE that with the time change it is getting dark so early. Yesterday it was dark when Patrick got home from work. We had been taking Jace for a walk or to the small park close to our house almost everyday before dinner. Now it is just too dark to go and that makes me sad.
I am excited about all the holiday excitement that is coming up. I love Christmas and I can’t wait to make cookies and decorate the tree with Jace this year. But I’m not looking forward to all the stress it always seems to bring. It really seems like a balancing act trying to fit every family activity in. Both mine and Patrick’s parents are divorced and it seems that we can never attend every family event and can never make everyone happy.
Before my parents got divorced I loved the holidays. I loved cooking all morning of Thanksgiving and Christmas and it was truly my favorite part of the Holidays. Unfortunately it is something I haven’t got to do in a few years. But it is something that I really want to share with Jace and it is something I really would like to start doing again this year at least for Christmas.
Thanksgiving was a little better last year with Jace but it had been sort of a sore subject for me. When I was a sophomore in college my parents split and all I remember about that Thanksgiving was the day my mom and dad moved out of our house and into separate houses. We didn’t have a Thanksgiving that year. That is a different story for another day but it still unfortunately stains my feelings of Thanksgiving.
We are currently under a flash flood watch and it is expected to rain a lot tonight. We need the rain but it is pushing the feeling of summer even further away. 🙁 I’m hoping for a few more weeks of warm weather so I can take Jace to the park and zoo a few more times without having to bundle him up first. Nap time is over so I’ll leave you with a few cute photos of Jace. 🙂
