Our Christmas was hectic and awesome all at the same time. We didn’t get to do as much stuff at home as I had wanted but we still had a lot of fun. We opened presents with Jace Christmas Eve morning and then packed, did a little last minute shopping, and made it there in time to go to church on Christmas Eve. I always want to put mass instead of church since I mostly went to catholic church growing up. It one of Patrick’s traditions that I really like. His family has a little tiny church that they all go to on Christmas. The majority of the people there are somehow related to him and it small and plain but beautiful. At the end Santa(Patrick’s cousin) comes in with bags of candy for everyone and all the kids sit on his lap. Then after that everyone goes to one of his aunts houses to eat and talk. It makes me miss big family gatherings from my dad’s side when we lived in MO when I was little.
Christmas day we opened presents at Patrick’s mom’s house and then loaded into cars for a 2.5 hour drive to his grandmas to eat. I always have a love/hate relationship with this. I love his grandma and being there I just hate missing out on doing stuff with my family because we spend so much time driving. But now that my grandma is gone I know this time really is important for Patrick and for Jace. We ended up having a late Christmas dinner with my mom and brothers. It was a good ending to Christmas night.
We came back home Saturday night since Patrick had his LAST DAY OF WORK EVER AT HEB on Sunday!!! I have been waiting for this day for years. Finally he will have weekends off and not be working two jobs. Hopefully now he won’t be so exhausted all the time and be able to spend more time with Jace. Patrick had worked two jobs for most of the time we have been together and sometimes it has been really difficult. He has been with HEB for 10 years and I know it was hard for him to finally give it up. He started working there right after high school and it has always been his backup even though he has a engineering job now.
